The Glass Iceberg
Wiggling backwards out of that zinc watering can left my tail feathers dusted with dried moss, so I waddled over to the cool brick steps by the garden sundial. Perched right on the lower flagstone was a heavy, discarded glass bottle stopper shaped like a faceted diamond! It caught the afternoon light in blinding icy flashes. Naturally, my tummy demanded I inspect this frozen boulder. I nudged it with the flat of my beak, and it rolled with a brisk, crisp clink across the stone groove, knocking directly into a dropped copper washer. I sat down and rested my plush white belly squarely against the chilled crystal facet. Still not a crunchy sardine, but commanding my own miniature glacier in the garden makes me the coolest penguin in town.
