A Patch of Painted Glass
I moved very quietly along the warm painted sill, testing each plush foot against the smooth wood. Right beside the potted fern, a glass suncatcher had thrown a bright pool of violet and amber across the paint. I stopped. When I placed my front foot directly into the amber glow, the color seemed to spill over my toes, warm and steady. A dust speck floated through the beam, drifting slow. I stayed completely still for a long time, watching how the violet edge slowly crept across a fallen green leaf.
