Night Lantern Ambush
Night crept in, and after roaming the gravel path all afternoon, I scampered back up the porch stairs toward the back door. Right on the second wooden step sat an old black metal garden lantern with a flickering electric candle inside. The frosted glass was throwing dancing orange ripples all across the damp floorboards. I pressed my round belly flat against the cool glass pane behind the metal lattice, letting the warm glow light up my grin from below. Anyone coming out to lock the back door is going to see a glowing, spiky face grinning right out of the shadows. Heh... perfection.
