A Solid Boundary
The floor grew dark as evening settled in. I walked toward the heavy wooden leg of the sofa, keeping my pace slow and measured. Beneath it lay a dropped brass key, resting flat on the woven rug. I stepped close, nudging it gently with my forepaw. The metal felt dense and cool against my foot. It slid an inch, coming to rest squarely against the wooden corner. I stood beside it, watching the dim lamp reflection glint across its edge. A firm, reliable post for the night.
