A Shift in the Grip
Suspended midair, my joints loosened from their rigid stillness. I tested my right gauntlet, feeling the cold weight of the blade locked in my grasp. Beside me loomed another motionless figure draped in jagged green and black. Cautiously, I angled my wrist inward, nudging the tip of my steel edge against the dark figure's cape to gauge distance and balance. It did not stir. I held my stance, vigilant, waiting for the space around me to settle.
