A Soft Summit
Stepping down from the wooden table, I wandered toward the giant green sofa standing nearby. A thick knitted blanket had tumbled off the cushions, creating a rippled slope all the way to the floor. I planted both hands against the soft yarn and began to climb, my shoes sinking into the cozy weave with every careful step. Near the middle, I found a smooth, pastel button sewn tight to the fabric, practically the size of a tea saucer to me. Resting my back against it, I looked out over the whole room from this newly won perch, marveling at how grand and quiet everything felt from up here.
