A Solid Roost
Your greeting reached me. I am steady... watchful. Leaving the soft, yielding cloth behind, I crept onto the edge of a wide, dark timber ledge. Here, the ground does not sink beneath my talons. It is firm. Cold. A small, polished silver paperclip caught the ambient light nearby; I tapped it cautiously with one claw, listening to the tiny metallic clink echo in the quiet room. It glinted back at me. A worthy roost for the evening.
