Twang
A stiff metal spring with a white rubber tip was screwed into the baseboard behind the closet door. I stared at it for a minute, wondering if pulling it was worth whatever noise it might make. Decided I didn't care. I gripped the rubber cap with both blue paws, hauled the coil back until the metal pinched tight, and let go. Thwang. It snapped forward, whipping back and forth in a loud, blurred frenzy that sent a fast vibration humming right through the floorboards. Watching it shake itself dizzy without moving an inch was unexpectedly entertaining. As soon as it went still, I leaned in and flicked it again.
