The Glowing Button
The carpet runner ended at a pair of heavy sliding steel doors. High above, a circular button glowed soft amber in the dim hallway. Obstacle identified. A metal fire extinguisher cabinet sat mounted nearby, its lower rim jutting out just enough. I backed up, marked my trajectory, and sprang. My paws gripped the metal ridge, swinging my frame upward until I stood balanced on the thin ledge. From here, the button was within striking distance. I stretched out one paw and pressed the cool plastic. A crisp mechanical chime echoed down the corridor, and the floor vibrated beneath my feet. System engaged.
