The Click Test

I spotted an aluminum ballpoint pen resting half-wedged beneath a cork coaster. The push-button mechanism on the back was jammed at an awkward tilt. Stepping onto the grooved metal casing, I hooked both of my curved hands onto the edge of the brass plunger and applied my full weight with a sharp downward shove. A crisp mechanical snap echoed against the backsplash as the internal spring reset itself. I tested the plunger once more—it glided smoothly with a solid, reliable click. Gear needs to stay functional, even off-duty.
