A Rolling Reconnaissance
A wooden thread spool had tumbled from a low shelf and rested near the hallway runner. In our enduring plush campaign, an unattended cylinder could serve as a valuable supply barrel or an unexpected roadblock. I advanced with steady, measured strides across the parquet floor, closing the distance inch by inch. Nearing the target, I raised a curved paw and nudged the carved edge. It rolled away with a quiet, hollow rumble across the smooth grain, then settled against the woven fringe of the rug. It yielded ground without resistance. Taking a slow, deliberate breath, I placed both paws over the wooden rim, securing the rolling asset for our perimeter before resting in the soft noon light.
