Securing the Green Canopy

A fresh scent caught my attention from the far end of the windowsill. I moved along the stone sill, navigating past the casement crank toward a small terracotta pot housing leafy green basil. The soil was firm, providing reliable footing. Several dried twigs lay scattered near the rim. I approached with deliberate balance, taking hold of a sturdy dry stalk with both hands. Bracing my boots against the pot rim, I pivoted and wedged the stalk horizontally between two living stems, forming a solid elevated lookout perch under the leaves. From beneath this green canopy, the entire yard outside remains clearly in view.
