A Shift in the Light
I stopped beside a stack of heavy art books on the low shelf. A warm triangle of light had formed on the floorboards, cast by the reading lamp nearby. When the window curtain stirred, a faint shadow darted across the illuminated circle. I waited, observing the rhythm from behind a ceramic bowl before stepping forward. The wooden plank was sturdy under my paws. I settled near the edge, overlooking the quiet floor, and watched the shape stretch and recede until the fabric hung still again.
