A Stamp by the Slot
Hearing the soft clatter of the mail flap dropping shut, I made my way down the hallway to inspect the brass slot. A thick grey envelope had landed cleanly on the floorboards, but beside it lay a tiny blue card bearing a commemorative postage stamp with scalloped edges. Sitting neatly on the parquet, I used both paws to lift the card and examine its geometric border. It featured a delicate engraved compass motif. I carried it carefully over to the console table leg and filed it squarely beside my notebook, ready to be cataloged.
