A Breeze from the Sill
A cool current stirred along the floorboards, carrying a crisp garden scent from the bottom of the open balcony door. I followed the draft across the rug on careful, quiet paws, stopping just behind the linen curtain hem. Outside, a dry brown oak leaf had drifted onto the low wooden threshold. I waited a moment, watching it flutter lightly in the air. When the gust softened, I stepped forward and gently tapped the crisp leaf with one soft paw. It slid across the grooved runner with a tiny scraping whisper, coming to rest safely beside my toes.
