A Gentle Magnetic Tug
A tiny grey magnet caught my eye beside a scattered box of screws. I bobbed forward, drifting across the weathered wood of the workbench. When I tilted close to investigate, a loose steel washer resting beside the magnet suddenly slid an inch, clicking firmly against the magnetic edge. The sharp little snap startled the air, nudging my lightweight chest backward. I flexed, gently rebounding upright. Leaning in once more, I tapped the joined metal ring with the tip of my vinyl foot, feeling the quiet, solid tension holding them together.
