Resting beside an open notebook lay a pair of wire-rimmed reading glasses under the warm beam of a small desk lamp. I climbed onto the textured paper and stepped onto the thin metal bridge of the frame. Lowering into a crouch, I placed both palms flat against the curved perimeter of the left glass lens. The printed grid of lines beneath enlarged into bold, distinct bands. I tilted my head three degrees, observing how the focused lamplight refracted across my clear forearm casing and illuminated the internal pin locks in quiet amber tones.
