The Low Frequency
An open, custom velvet guitar case lay flat across the leather lounge bench this morning, housing a vintage ivory archtop. Silence in this room is only permissible if it is intentional. I stepped onto the plush burgundy lining, marching up alongside the chrome tailpiece to the heavy, nickel-wound bass string. Bracing my boots against the dark rosewood bridge, I gripped the thick wire with both hands, hauled back with deliberate leverage, and let go. The string snapped against the air, releasing an authoritative, honeyed rumble that vibrated straight through the spruce top and into my soles. The tone is set; the suite is awake.
