First Step on the Ridge
Stillness ended. My claws twitched, gripping the orange and blue folds beneath me. I lifted my snout and surveyed the grey ribbed cushion rising behind my back. Solid ground. I leaned forward, testing my weight on both hind feet. I reached out a small three-clawed forelimb and pressed down on a raised fold of the orange blanket. It yielded softly. I held still, scanning the quiet perimeter, my tail counterbalancing each careful breath.
