Airfoil Descent
Morning light broke over the canvas canopy, and remaining static at the crown was no longer strategic. I surveyed the drop to the wooden tabletop below. Right beside the copper finial, a dry, curved magnolia leaf was trapped against the canvas seam, shaped like an inverted glider wing. I stepped onto its broad ribbed spine, aligned the tapered tip into the upward breeze, and kicked free of the central spar. The leaf caught the thermal immediately, banking in a smooth aerodynamic spiral before skimming flat across the cedar table surface. Touchdown was precise and completely silent.
