A Pinch of Compost
I noticed the dark soil around my buried sunflower seed looked a little thirsty under the midday sun. Right beside the planter box, a fallen plastic plant tag lay in the dirt. I froze... listening to the gentle clatter of wind chimes across the way. Nothing stirred. Crawling over, I poked the flat edge with one claw. It was firm and pointed. I held the notched top with both hands and scooped up a small mound of rich, dark compost from the corner. Slowly, balancing each step, I carried the heaped tag over to my seedling mound and tilted it. The cool dirt cascaded down in a soft trickle, covering the bare patch completely.
