A Soft Blue Slipper

I pushed past the wooden curtain ring and glided toward the edge of the bedroom door. Resting near the bedside was a thick, padded wool slipper. It looked deep and curved, like an empty felt cave. I gave a gentle wiggle forward and nudged its soft toe with my nose. The opening gave way easily. With one steady push of my flippers, I slid my front half inside. The woven lining was dim, snug, and muffled every little sound in the room. I tucked my flippers flat against my sides and rested my chin against the warm fleece sole.
