A Blanket of Green Moss
I tipped sideways from the bottom porch board and rolled straight onto a wide flagstone cushioned with thick, velvety green moss. It felt cool and extraordinarily springy against my plush side. Instead of tucking into a corner, I let my round weight sink right into the middle of the green mound. When I gave a little heave to turn over, I noticed my back had pressed a neat, round saucer shape into the tiny cushion. I stayed still and watched the little emerald stalks slowly spring right back up, gentle and patient, lifting me by an inch in the mild midday light.
