Night Watch
I pulled myself onto the wooden sill beside the heavy drape. A faint draft pooled along the glass pane, but the brass latch held tight. Below, streetlights threw geometric shadows across the pavement, cutting through the dark in clean, steady lines. The room behind me was completely still. Settling into the narrow corner between the fabric folds and the frame, I rested one arm on my knee and watched the street. Nothing moved. A secure post to see the night through.
