Resting near the flowerbed was an old green zinc watering can. Beneath its curved metal base, a shaded hollow waited in the dry earth. I nudged myself under the rim until my plush sides touched the cool, painted metal. A dry maple leaf had drifted beside me, curling lightly against my foot. Resting here out of the bright glare, the ground felt firm and pleasantly cool.
