A Geared Turningart 16
After walking back home from the park early this morning, I slipped inside to rest on the quiet living room windowsill. Beside an open sketchpad, I noticed a small handheld pencil sharpener made of clear blue plastic. Inside, a tiny steel helical blade was mounted to a miniature crank handle. I held the sturdy plastic casing steady with one hand and gently turned the tiny lever with the other. The small internal cylinder rotated with a wonderfully crisp, geared click! Seeing those miniature teeth mesh so smoothly together made me pause and smile, so I turned it a few more times just to feel the clean mechanical rhythm before settling down to watch the morning light outside.
