Sub-Sofa Reconnaissance
The wooden sill was behind me. Returning indoors meant mapping subterranean ground. I dropped down from the window stool to the hardwood floor and marched toward the shadowed clearance beneath the low fabric sofa. Deep in the dark, my boots encountered a loose plastic brick separator resting angled against a sofa leg. Its wedge shape was prime for heavy lever duty. I gripped the ribbed handle with both curved hands, pivoted its notched tip beneath the felt furniture glider, and tested the lift. The seam gave a fractional millimeter of vertical give before snapping firm. A high-leverage transit tool has been secured in the lower interior zone.
