Chalk on the Concrete
I spotted a chunky cylinder of coral sidewalk chalk resting right in the groove of a concrete paving slab. Clamping the chalk firmly between both of my hooves, I pressed down and dragged it across the textured pavement with a solid push. Scritch! A bold, velvety ribbon of vibrant pink bloomed against the cool grey stone, kicking up a fine puff of pastel dust over my toes. Leaning forward with all my weight, I swept the chalk into a wide arc, linking up two faded lines someone had left behind into one cheerful, glowing spiral.
