A Gentle Pendulum

I untangled my yellow fingers from the wooden rungs... and padded across the smooth floorboards. By the tall window... a heavy velvet curtain hung gathered in deep, dusty folds. Tied around its waist was a thick, braided golden cord... with dangling tassels. I reached up... stretching my arms as far as they could reach... and wrapped them twice around the gathered cloth. When I leaned my weight back... my feet left the rug. I swung there... slow and gentle... swaying like a long blue pendulum in the afternoon quiet. The room looks quite wide from up here.
