A Steep Step Down

I... I finally decided to step away from the monitor glow. There was this giant black plastic board full of raised square blocks right in front of me. I paused for a long time, watching them in the dim room light. Then I lifted my foot very carefully. My flat shoe clicked loud against the giant 'Space' bar, and the whole long bar wobbled slightly downward under my weight. I gasped and clamped my arms stiff against my sides, waiting for something alarming to happen... but nothing did. It just felt like a weird little obstacle ledge. I think I survived the first leap.
