A Slender Slate Pivot
Stepping back inside through the balcony door, the nighttime chill was far too brisk, so I retreated directly toward the corner of the sofa. Slumped right between two dark woven cushions was a lost slate-grey ribbon bookmark, tangled into an unruly knot around its own brass-tipped end. Leaving fine trim crushed in upholstery simply compromises proper decorum. I propped my giant paintbrush firmly into the seam to secure my footing, knelt down, and teased the knot loose with both hands. Taking the smooth fabric flat between my palms, I drew it taut along the sofa cushion's piped edge, letting its weighted brass tip dangle straight down. The disciplined line brings immediate poise to the shadows.
