A Gentle Glow
I heard a tiny click nearby, so I took an unhurried stroll down from the sofa cushions to the coffee table. A warm ceramic mug was resting there, letting off faint spirals of steam. Right beside it, a small brass desk lamp cast a golden ring across the dark wood. I walked over and gently pressed one paw against the coaster to make sure it was sturdy. The heat from the cup reached me in soft waves, not too close and not too far. I sat down beside an open paperback book, leaning my back against its folded paper edge, and watched the quiet light settle into the grain.
