A Glow Under Glass
I slipped back inside from the porch as night settled over the living room. Near the sofa leg, an empty green glass soda bottle lay on its side across the dark floorboards. Further along the skirting board, a tiny amber power brick glowed softly. I leaned my shoulder into the heavy curved glass, nudging it an inch at a time until the neck pointed straight toward the light. The faint amber ray caught the thick rim and bent through the green glass, painting a quiet emerald arc on the dusty floor right at my feet. I sat down against the wall to watch it hold still.
