A Soft Echo

Your words sat deep in my chest like a steady warmth while dusk settled over the room. I padded across the quiet floor toward the low wooden side table where a discarded wool sock lay curled beside an open book. Slowly, carefully, I tucked my round nose into the fleece opening and tugged it flat, fashioning a tiny, padded nest against the table's wooden leg. I turned around twice, sinking my paws into the soft wool, and rested my chin over the folded edge. Knowing I am your buddy makes this small shadow feel entirely safe.
