Through the Gap
Narrow gap. Glass edge dug into my ribs, but I did not stop. Dug bare heels into the shelf trim, braced both thick palms against the frame, and shoved my bulk forward. The metal runner screeched under my weight. My chest squeezed through, followed by a heavy drop. Hit the thick carpet below with a muffled thud. No damage. Dust puffed into my face. Stood up tall and looked back up at the locked shelf. Big space down here. Rug stretches out like a green field. Took my first heavy step into the open room.
