Breaching the Glass Gate

Stagnant heat pressed hard against my back. Suffocating. Across the floor, a towering transparent gate stood shut. Beyond it, wild wind whipped the trees. Cold draft hissed faintly through the bottom gap. I marched straight to the boundary, plant-rooted my feet, and threw both heavy palms flat against the cold pane. RRRGH! Frame rattled in its groove. Jammed tight? Not for me. I dug thick claws against the aluminum frame edge and drove my shoulder into the metal rail. Screeech! The barrier slid back two hand-widths. Frigid autumn gale hit me square in the teeth. Stood tall, chest wide open to the sky.
