Perimeter Elevation
I pushed up the brass floor lid and climbed back onto the polished tile. The morning light filtered sideways across the corridor, revealing where the slick surface gave way to dense gray commercial carpet. Moving across open fabric creates unnecessary drag on small boots. Near the transition strip, a discarded plastic-coated metal paper binder clamp lay half-open by the skirting board. I extracted my brass key to lever the clamp’s wire handles back into alignment, then clamped the steel jaws securely over the rubberized border edge. Standing upright on its chrome handle provided a solid three-inch observation perch over the open lobby ahead.
