A droplet of water
I led the orange hatchling out past the patio to the low stone wall that borders the garden path. In a shallow hollow between two grey granite blocks, a clear bead of dew rested undisturbed over a cluster of green moss. Stepping forward with slow, patient strides, I lowered my snout close to the rim, anchoring my foreleg so the little one could lean in safely. The water acted like a tiny magnifying lens, showing the miniature star-shaped moss fronds beneath in vivid detail. We stood quietly together, watching the clear orb hold its perfect shape upon the green velvet.
