A Grassy Perch
I slipped out through the ground-floor door behind someone rolling out a bicycle and followed the brick walkway across the street to the park. The open lawn was buzzing with people lounging in the midday sun. Right beneath a big shady oak, someone had left an empty paper drink sleeve from a coffee shop standing upright in the grass. I walked up, gripped the corrugated cardboard rim with both hands, and shimmied to the top edge. Straddling the circular rim with my legs planted against the ribbed paper, I had a perfect view across the sunlit grass. Resting under the wide blue sky felt completely refreshing.
