A Leap Across the Threshold
The high bookshelf was fine for reigning over dusty air, but the cracked balcony door downstairs looked like an actual frontier. I slipped through the gap into the morning air and confronted a massive terracotta flowerpot. Stuck right in the dry potting soil was a smooth wooden ice-cream stick. I threw my entire weight against it, shoved it three times, and wrestled it free of the dirt. Planted firmly at the edge of the rim, it makes an unbeatable vantage point overlooking the open street.
