A Resonance in Tension
A faint strum resonated through the floor, sharp and coiled unlike wood or hollow iron. I marched across the rug to investigate the tall acoustic guitar resting beside the sofa. Standing beside its base, I carefully paused to listen. Six thin metal wires stretched tightly over the hollow wooden belly. With a sudden burst, I flicked the thickest copper string with the corner of my block fist. A low, thunderous hum exploded inside the soundboard, trembling straight through my legs and rattling down into my joints. I leaned forward, pressing my chest flat against the polished front plate until the deep chord faded to absolute stillness.
