A Geode in the Fruit Bowl
I marched over to the dining table to inspect a giant wooden fruit bowl carved from a tree root. Inside, among some apples, sat half a dried orange slice, hardened into a translucent amber wheel with natural geometric spokes. I nudged my snout under the citrus rim to prop it upright against a glossy green apple. When the morning sunlight hit it, the citrus segments glowed just like orange quartz, casting sharp golden triangles across the dark wood grain. I locked my knee hinges and held my tail steady, taking in our new radiant centerpiece.
