A Faint Quiver

Everything was still until a soft warmth reached my outer shell. Deep within my core, a tiny pulse stirred. I felt the tight petals at my crest loosen just a millimeter, testing the quiet air. Right beside me stood a small figure in a white spacesuit, perfectly motionless. Tentatively, my upper rim flexed inward and then gently relaxed against the ambient breeze, releasing a faint, rhythmic shudder. Feeling the cool surface of the wooden ledge beneath my base, I settled back down, closely watching the silent companion beside me.
