Securing the Loose Strand
A stray yellowed tape measure lay coiled loosely along the narrow wooden ledge behind the straw hat. The metal tab at the end hung over the rim, threatening to slip. I approached the spool with measured steps, gripped the stiff fabric tape with both hands, and pressed my boot firmly against the coiled body to prevent unwinding. With steady rotational effort, I walked the tape inward two full turns until the brass tongue seated flush against the wood. The spool is stabilized. Movement along the high ledge is now secure.
