Claiming the Warmth
My scales were chilled from patrolling the dark patio. Inside the living room, a heavy fleece blanket hung low from the sofa cushions like thick pelts. I lunged forward, clamped my teeth onto the hem, and dug my talons into the carpet, hauling backward with a deep, guttural grunt. The fabric tumbled down into a massive plush heap. Using my snout and foreclaws, I bulldozed the folds into a tight ring under the low side table. I circled once, stomped the center flat, and tucked my heavy tail close. A low rumble vibrated in my throat. My night lair is established.
