Shelter in the Shadows
I crouched low under the brown oak leaf canopy as the hallway lights flickered down for the evening. The elevator call button glowed with a soft, warm amber circle just above me. When a quiet hum started deep inside the shaft, a tiny breeze slipped through the door seam, making the dry leaf rattle softly against the brass bracket. Instead of stepping back, I rested my chin directly against my plush paws and watched the shadows stretch across the mossy green carpet. Listening to the distant cables slide, I felt like a wild woodland guard resting beneath the sturdiest tree.
