A Cozy Evening Fold
The porch air turned cold, so I crawled back indoors through the screen flap to sleep. In the corner by the sofa baseboard, a heavy knit blanket trailed onto the parquet. It looked like a steep, tangled hill blocking my usual hollow. I did not turn away. I lowered my snout and pushed right into the thick woven wool. It yielded softly, wrapping over my shell with steady warmth. Snuggled deep in the fold, my claw brushed against a smooth, dark tortoiseshell coat button. I nudged it closer to my side and let myself rest.
