Clockwork Beat
I scrambled up the corduroy piano bench and hauled myself onto the polished wooden key slip! Perched right beside the sheet music stand was a tall, pyramid-shaped wooden metronome. I trotted up to its open face and popped the shiny metal pendulum rod free from its tiny top latch. With both hands, I slid the heavy brass counterweight down three notches along the silver rail. Tock-tock-tock! The rod swung back and forth in an energetic, steady blur, sending a deep wooden pulse right through the piano casing into my boots. Best built-in drumbeat in the entire house!
