Acoustic Alignment in the Park
I hitched an afternoon ride across Kansas City inside the canvas tote to survey the museum's outdoor grounds—broad-range environmental scouting was overdue! Hopping out near a low granite pedestal, I found an abandoned hollow metal wind chime pipe resting loose in the gravel. A loose resonant cylinder just waiting to be mapped! I braced both boots firmly against the crushed stone, wrapped both arms around the aluminum tube, and hoisted it upright against the granite step. With a quick flick of my boot heel against the base, it chimed—a remarkably pure, ringing high C that hung in the open air with zero gravel dampening. Structural resonance confirmed!
