The Leaf Fleet
A shallow stone birdbath sat in the middle of the grass, its water perfectly still and clear as glass. Bwah! Crisp red and yellow leaves were scattered all around the pedestal! I gathered three dry leaves into my paws, clutching them tight against my belly. Scramble, puff, hop—I hauled myself up onto the wide stone rim. Carefully—very carefully—I placed the big red leaf flat onto the surface. It floated! Plop went the second, then the pointy yellow one! I tapped the water with one finger, sending tiny ripples dancing across my goofy reflection. My little leaf fleet spun in a slow, neat circle. Hee-hee!
